Playboy, 50, has always been about the content, really
It’s easy to forget that in the beginning, before the bunny became a global brand, before Hugh Hefner (”Hef”) became the swingin’ godfather to three generations of American men, before anyone had even heard the name Pamela Anderson, Playboy was simply a magazine. And not the sort that red-blooded all-American guys normally read.
Can Marvel keep up its heroic performance?
…doubts are growing as to whether the company can continue to soar. “There are excessive expectations beyond 2004,” warns Mark Roberts, director of research at Off Wall Street Consulting Group, a Cambridge, Mass., research firm. “By 2005 the top characters will have been used up and Marvel will have to rely on its inferior characters.”
Info:
The average price of a comic is 3 dollars. Uh. The average reader is 25-30 years old. 95 percent of all comic book readers are men. In 2002, North American sales of comics reached a five year high of over 300 million dollars.
These are the boom times. But with a readership average so old, or at least older than it should be, how long before the industry finally goes bust.
One way to fix the problem is to lower the price for a comic. Who has 2.95 to spend on a 22 page book. It’s insane. Others are looking at the web. I personally dislike web comics. There’s something about having real paper in between your hands.
