The Resurrection
I haven’t watched a lot of the Justice League cartoon. But I’ve noticed that Booster Gold has been on the show and Blue Beetle hasn’t. At least I think so. I might be mistaken. I won’t go into it because I don’t know for sure. But if he hasn’t, Why not? Beetle goes with Gold like Fire goes with Ice, and Laurel goes with Hardy, and Damon goes with Affleck. It’s just natural.
Does a mass murderer deserve a second chance?
We’re less than one month away from the return of Hal Jordan as Green Lantern. Part of me could give a shit. And yet, I wonder. I always loved the potential of the post-Green Lantern Jordan, a formerly great super-hero with issues. A lot of people hate what DC did to Jordan. I kind of dug it, at least in theory, if not in execution.

Green Lantern Corps History
You take a hero who gets his city wiped out, his friends, his long lost love, some family, all killed, and you have that dude go nutty and have a nervous breakdown. He uses his powers, with Jordan, his Lantern ring, and recreates the city with all of the inhabitants back intact. His powers begin to fade and he goes back to those Oa dudes, the big headed blue dudes with white hair who originally created the Lantern ring, and goes off and kills the majority of them after they refuse to help him power back up. He kills the rest of the Green Lanterns who come to protect the big headed blue dudes, and then merges with Central Power Battery, the main Green Lantern power juicer.
He changes his name to Parallax, or some thing close to that shit, and begins to recreate the universe by his will, essentially stopping the destruction of his home city before it even happens. He is eventually stopped, but not before doing some damage, or undoing some damage. Because the dudes that stop Hal have to travel back to the beginning of time and reset the world without the unwanted guidance of Jordan, and recreate the Big Bang, essentially recreating the DC Universe. This is important because DC continuity sucks. I don’t even get that shit. Who knows what the fuck is real DC history anymore. Who existed or never existed. Shit. The dudes at DC don’t even know.
And that’s why they reset the DC Universe after Crisis with Zero Hour. With Crisis on Infinite Earths, a great deal of DC history and characters were wiped out because the alternate timelines they existed in were wiped out. With Zero Hour, the DC Universe was rebooted, which included reintroducing some of the Golden Age history and alternate timeline characters that made pre-Crisis DC history too messy, except without all the limitation of conciseness and definition. You could say something in an old JSA story happened, it just didn’t happen when we all thought it happened. You could say the first Flash and Green Lantern existed, but not necessarily in proximity with current comic book timelines. It’s one of the reasons why many of the old JSA members are really old, while many of the silver age heroes are pretty close to the same age when they started. Redefined history makes it so. It’s history without history.
I know. I know. I went off there a minute. Let’s get back to Jordan. He’s killed, comes back, and is killed again. And then some freaky shit I didn’t know about happens, he becomes the Spectre. I don’t know how, but he does.
And somehow, in a couple of weeks, he’ll be back in the land of the living as Green Lantern. Which I’m kind of looking forward to. By the way, I like the fact that they didn’t off his replacement, Kyle, letting the dude keep his ring and fly off into the cosmos. They usually like to kill off people when old dudes return.
Here’s hoping that they write Jordon right this time. I mean the dude did kill a lot of people. He’s a mass murderer. You just don’t clean the slate after you’ve committed genocide and tried to recreate the universe in your own image. Dude needs to continue with holding the weight, the guilt of his past atrocities. We need a Green Lantern with issues, questioning who he is, and if he even deserves to be back in the land of the living.
I’m looking forward to this shit, but only if those DC dudes do it up right.
